There is a theory I've seen floated around that Rin could be a priestess. She is training with Kaede by the end of the series, so her becoming a magical girl is totally plausible by those circumstances.

A03 Entry / FF.Net Entry

0000

comments

Who’s it for, by the way?”

All but Scrooge found out when the door was finally answered.

“Flintheart Glomgold!” Donald and the nephews exclaimed.

“In the flesh!” He came in, still limping from the injured ankle he received from Scrooge and his last adventure a week prior. His cane poked Donald’s stomach. “I was told you had food?”

“Uh…” Donald stammered. “Yes! Yes we do! And it’s ready right now! The kitchen’s right there!”

“Why is he here?” Donald mouthed to Scrooge.

“Why do you care?” Scrooge mouthed back. “I invited him for a reason!”

Well, if there was a reason for Scrooge’s biggest rival to come over, then fine. Now whether he’d find out over dinner was another matter.

Flintheart took his seat by Scrooge. The Afrikaner stared at the sandwich ingredients, a basket of apples, and a gallon of milk in the center of the table. “Eating fancy tonight, are we?”

“Not the fanciest, but still good to me!” Scrooge replied.

Flintheart grumbled.

Donald grabbed an extra set of plates and glass for the extra guest. Everyone else sat, said a little prayer.

“Amen!” Donald said. “Now Flintheart, how do you like your peanut butter and jelly?”

“Jelly?”

“Huh?”

“The Junior Woodchuck Guidebook says that ‘jelly’ is another word for gelatin around the world,” Louie whispered.

“Oh! I uh, mean, jam!”

He hmmph’d. “Surprise me.”

Donald gulped.

“Make it like mine, nephew,” Scrooge said.

Heavy on the peanut butter, light on the grape jelly, cut straight across instead of diagonally like the boys’s. Got it.

Two plates clanked in front of the oldest ducks. Flintheart slowly poked a bony finger into the bread.

“Weird,” he muttered.

“In what way?” Donald said.

“It’s soft!”

“Used to it being hard as a rock, aren’t ye?” Scrooge said.

“Even if I wasn’t you American bread is weird,” he said before taking the tiniest bite. Flintheart chewed. And chewed. Then chewed some more.

Finally a swallow. He shrugged. “Not bad. A bit rich.”

“Like you!” The boys chimed in.

Flintheart grinned before taking a second bite.

The room filled with only the sounds of ducks feeding before Donald broke the ice.

“So, we heard you were invited, Flintheart?”

“Oh, I just noticed how skinny as a rail he was and let him come over while he was in town,” Scrooge interrupted.

“It was free,” Flintheart continued.

“Well, eat however you want,” Donald said.

“We’re ready for our apples Unca Donald,” the boys said.

“Oh, we’re having an extra course?” Flintheart said. “Very fancy, then!”

“Guests first,” Donald told the boys before pushing the fruit basket in the center towards Flintheart and Scrooge.

“How is it that all of these apples aren’t blemished?” Flintheart commented while inspecting yet another Red Delicious.

“I tell him he can get the bruised fruit for cheaper, but that boy never listens!” Scrooge declared, eyes closed and a finger pointing up.

“Listen to your uncle for once, boy!” Flintheart said with a point.

Donald grunted.

Finally he selected one. “Fresher than I’m used to,” he said after the first bite. He said the same thing before drinking the milk. He then another glass, and then the rest of Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s, when they were done and excused themselves from the table.

“Got anymore?” Flintheart asked Donald. He had a pronounced mustache on his bill and some milk dripping on his beard.

“You drank pretty much the whole jug,” he replied, tilting the milk as much as possible to get the last drop inside of it.

Hmm. “Glad I took full advantage,” he said to no one in particular.

“No you didn’t,” Scrooge said. He snatched the jug and shook it until the drop came out onto his hand, then licked it off. He grinned at Flintheart’s frustration.

Donald began collecting the plates. “I can get started on the dishes if you two want to—”

“That’ll be enough, Donald,” Scrooge said with a “shoo” motion. “We’ll talk in here. He could always wash the dishes later.

“Hope you enjoyed dinner, Flintheart and Uncle Scrooge,” he said before departing.

“I know someone did!” Scrooge called back, looking at Flintheart.

They waited until Donald’s steps and the creaking of the floor were faint.

“Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?” Scrooge asked, a hand on the other’s shoulder.

Flintheart shrugged. “Could’ve been worse, I suppose…. Especially if you want to try to best me!” Scrooge winked.

“Hmm, you’re right. Where should we go? Your office or mine?”

“If we’re going to my Money Bin I’m keeping you within my sights at all time.
Last year, Sally Hansen collaborated Crayola to release a 12 color line of polishes themed after Crayola crayons called Back to School. I immediately ordered all the colors and fell in love. Besides the crayon theme and rainbow colors, they had the usual amazing Insta Dri formulas. I've used them regularly for nail art and standard manicures since. Another pastel themed collection, this time named Spring Fling, came out in the spring and I snapped them all up in one swoop at Ulta. With the exception of one, the formulas perform similarly as the previous collection for me. I expected that to be the end of it, but was tipped off to yet another collection released this summer- School's Out.

comments

I'm still alive. Mostly active on Tumblr and Instagram. Moving next month. Real life is a wild ride.

If you're on any of my social media for longer than two seconds, you will notice that I'm a huge Sailor Moon fan. I've been into the series since I was four, no kidding. It's a special series to me.

Which brings us to my inspiration today. Sailor Moon (and Sailor Chibi Moon)'s canon birthdays are on June 30. Since that day is today, I decided to finally do a nail art look that I had wanted to try to celebrate the occasion.

I think it turned out very well.

For the base polishes I used Femme Fatale Who is the Fairest of Them All? over Wet n Wild Tickled Pink. "Who's the Fairest" is a clear to pink thermal polish. It's one of my older thermals so while it still transitions, the change is not as sensitive. You will mostly see it on the tips here if you look closely.

As for the stamping, I used Color Club French Tip for the actual stamping polish since it's a very opaque white. The stamping plate is Born Pretty BP-06, which is a very weird plate. By weird I mean it has a mish-mash of different designs. There's Sailor Moon in the center, and then there's religious imagery, sex symbols, and space imagery circling her. It's like someone just wanted to do Sailor Moon but they couldn't just etch her onto a plate. Slap all the designs on it! I mean, look at it!

I'm not crazy, right?

An additional note about stampers. I've mostly switched to using a clear stamper for easier placement lately. Unfortunately it was very finicky with this stamping plate. I could barely get a transfer with it. When I switched to my old Creative Shop stamper (which is still one of my best stampers), the images transferred much better. This is why I'm not a fan of people solely relying on one stamper. Different stampers work with different plates, and vice versa. Stamping itself is finicky business. There is no one size fits all with it.

That wasn't the only tweak I made. I usually use pure acetone but I used regular nail polish this time since I had it in a pump bottle. When I switched back to pure acetone halfway through my mani, my stamper transferred even better. Note to self: always use acetone. Always.

I love this result. It's almost exactly what I imagined when I did it. Very girly and very Sailor Moon. 10/10 would do again.

comments

Leave a comment in this post saying that you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

When I was fifteen I wrote one of my most popular fics, a Pokemon fic entitled "Legacies Never Die" (FF.Net, DW, and AO3 links). Inspired by Hachiko the dog's tale, it addressed Ash and Pikachu's close friendship. It immediately became popular. My mailbox flooded with messages within hours. I still get a fave, an alert, or a review for it on a semi-regular basis almost ten years after writing it.

It's a not so well kept secret, but I have a twin brother. (I'm the older one, BTW :3) He can be a real pest, as siblings can be, and usually finds my fannish efforts quite stupid. But with this particular fic, he read it and asked if he could promo it on the official Nintendo forum that he regularly frequented. I consented, and he posted it with a note giving me credit. Like on Fanfiction.Net, the response was overwhelming both in volume and positive reception. I think only one person gave a middling review to it, citing that the ending was dumb (and yeah, I can kinda agree with them). It was also nominated for the forum's fanfic of the week and ultimately received second place.

We've had some other, more minor fannish interactions (save for a Donkey Kong fic collab that we never finished), but this was the biggest one. I really appreciate what he did for me then. It made my week (and summer).

comments

Show us why you think they are amazing. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

The moment I saw prompt I knew that I wanted to discuss someone in the InuYasha fandom. That's the fandom that I basically and totally popped my cherry with. First fic ever, first AU (also first fic ever, funnily enough), first crack, first kidfic, first fanart, first AMV, first rule 34... If not just about everything and the kitchen sink, then just about everything but the kitchen sink.

But who? There's always the chance that this prompt will return in 2018, and I could focus on someone else if I wanted to. But who? Resmiranda? That Nanda? Aiffe? Choices, choices...

Oh! I know who-

Kristine Batey. Even in the early to mid 2000s you'd still have the old timers in fandom. Being in my early to mid teens myself most of the older people I knew were in their late teens or early twenties. Occasionally someone in their thirties or older appeared on my radar. But Kristine was the first fiftysomething I came across online. She didn't see any reason to lie- she often quipped and made jokes about how she was an old lady and to not give her shit. Even online you could get the sense that she was a firecracker with a dry sense of humor.

She didn't write much actual fic, at least not that much on her Fanfiction.Net account that I linked above. But what I did read was enjoyable. I was particularly on a drabble kick in late middle school (partly because of me composing my own drabble collection, only for Monster Allergy), and I particularly enjoyed hers. To this day I still read them occasionally. The wonderful thing about drabble collections is that like any good anthology, there is a unifying theme of sorts, but otherwise anything goes. These contained the typical subjects of "will InuYasha and Sesshomaru ever get along?" and "what if InuYasha ends up with Kikyou?" and other, more creative ones. Kagome's cat and Mistress Centipede in cahoots to get Kagome into the well, for instance.

There were other drabbles that were sort of companion or related to her doujinshi A Hero of the 21st Century. (You can bet that I was astounded seeing that it was still online in 2017!) This was actually how I first found out about her. I used to frequent InuYasha webrings and top sites and this was a common page. Long before the series ended, fics where InuYasha either died at the end of the journey or turned human (or both) were as common as burgers on a fast food menu. This comic was a little different in that it had Hojo turning out to be InuYasha's reincarnation, being fully aware of it, and ran with it. Admittedly I didn't care much for the art even then, the formatting's generally atypical, and the comic itself's really silly. Which is on par with fandom, but you know what I mean. But Kristine's creativity and spark gave me incentive to carry on. It's not my favorite of her work, but it's a treat getting to look at it with an older lens.

Unfortunately the InuYasha fandom also gave me my first creator death, as she passed away in the mid 2000s (I think it was 2005?). I wasn't even aware that she had cancer. It took another fanwriter to write a short obituary on her profile for me to know. Around that time Fanfiction.Net introduced drafts that deleted after a period of time. I can't count how many times I pondered if she'd left any drafts the last time she logged on, whenever it was, and if they disappeared forever. I wondered if the comic was shutting down, like other sites I frequented in the early years, and never returned to it. When I get to the end of One Tenth of a Picture, listed as the most recently updated fic on her profile, it feels odd knowing that this was the end all of everything she ever wrote. the that's all for everyone. And considering how it's about a reincarnated too early InuYasha deciding to date Kagome's mother at the end, sensing a new possible romance and future for himself, it's practically, perfectly fitting. Unintentional or no, it's some sort of closure. Her mortal life is over, but she's very much alive on the internet after all these years. Thank you for the ride, Ms Batey. It was one I have never regretted going on.

comments

I can't help it- the prompts are so fun to complete! I just suck at answering them all before I kinda lose track of it because things. Anyway, here is my first fill for 2017!

Day 8

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm starting with this one for a reason. Goddamn, do I need it. I barely wrote anything in 2016. I need to double check on my fanfiction tag on Tumblr, but if I cracked 10 fics I'll be amazed. I just didn't feel inspired at all. Which is tragic in that I've been writing fanfic since I was 13. That's thirteen years in May. Half my life in August. I simply feel like I'm a horrible writer despite what others have told me. Do I believe that this will have me cranking out fanwork like a manic word processor again? No. But saying positive things about myself might help, even if I struggle.

1) I'm really good at writing cute things. Every time I write things intended to be cute, I get positive reception about how adorable they are.

2) To a lesser extent, I'm apparently really good at writing sadfics. Most of my most popular fics on FF.Net are deathfics for some reason. I still get favorites and reviews from one I wrote about ten years ago on a semi regular basis.

3) People like my child OCs, especially Colleen and Souris, complete with fanart (and fanfic for Souris). It's always exciting to see someone inspired enough by your work to actually create their own fanwork of it.

4) This is perhaps correlated with my profilic output, but I'm really good at breeding plotbunnies.

5) I was the one that helped Monster Allergy get a section on FF.Net in 2007, as well as help begin the comic index that the Dom Oasis forum hosts. Considering how major that the latter thing is for the fandom, I feel like my contributions have been particularly strong in the MA fandom (even if I only have three comics to my name)

I'm aware that this is a "say good things about yourself in general" post, but I especially felt like I needed to say good things about me as a writer. But here are a couple other bonuses about the good points of me, myself, and I:

6) I don't like finishing anything at bare minimum. Unless I'm super stressed or it's just impossible, I'll intend to both meet goal and above it.

7) I suffer from moderate to severe depression and anxiety, and like a demolished city I'm always rebuilt after a major breakdown. Call it cheesy, but "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba put it best: "I get knocked down, but I get up again/You are never gonna keep me down"

comments

I got into wax melting about a month ago. It was partly because my dad was complaining about the smell of my nail polish whenever I painted, but mostly I just wanted to do a sort of aromatherapy, I guess. I got a wax warmer and some melts for like $20 at Walmart and instantly got hooked despite my first wax warmer melting like crap. It's very pretty, but I didn't buy it so I could have a nightlight- I bought to, y'know, warm wax. Five hours to have a cube melt 80% of the way is pathetic. My mom got me a Glade warmer on New Year's Eve and it's so much better. Not only is the wax melted in forty-five minutes or less (or the pizza is free), but the throw is so much more consistent and longer lasting. Which makes me confused why the Glade model I have was discontinued for another...

But I digress. This isn't about the warmer. This is about some wax melts I bought for the warmer.

I like indie makeup and body care, and decided why not try some wax melts as well. One fandom based vendor I've been interested in was Bubble and Geek, which is based in West Virginia. It's currently hosting a 40% off "Adios 2016" sale so I decided to take the opportunity to try these for less. I ordered shortly after midnight on New Year's Day, received a shipping label printed notification the next day, and finally today, January 5, my package was stuffed into my mailbox.

(Top: You Look Like a Pink Nightmare, Mystic, Arcwine/ Bottom: Candy Cane Forest, Blue Milk Cookies)

I ordered five wax clamshells for $3.30 each (normally $5.50). Two clamshells were packed into one tissue paper package and three others in another. Both bundles were generously swaddled in bubble wrap for extra protection. Here is what I got, along with series, store scent descriptions, and what I smelled on cold sniff. I've already warmed one, so I'll provide details on how it is warm as well.
( the scents, with quick first impressions )

comments

I did a bad thing.

My parents have been restricting my already tight finances and autonomy more and more. I'm awaiting to hear back from SSI about disability and my only real self-made income is from me selling stuff online. I'm moving soon.

But I saw Sinful Colors's LGBT themed polish collection featured on Nouveau Cheap...

... And when I was at Walgreen's to get some medication I found the display tucked under most of the rest of the Sinful Colors. All colors still in stock too, gah. At $2 a pop and in a drugstore that I'm almost never at because of transportation reasons, I couldn't help but buy them all. I guess if my mom yells at me I can also justify the purchase by saying that a portion of the proceeds go to the Trevor Project. Because they totally are supposed to. It said so on the display.

comments

I've been into nail polish for years, as this tag shows. However, it was only within the past year that I've began nail stamping. The learning curve is steep at first, but tutorial videos, acquiring materials that worked for me, and a hell of a lot of practice later I'm really getting the hang of it. Still not perfect, but the results have looked really nice so far. So, I decided that since April is Autism Awareness month (ick), I'll do some Autism Acceptance nails to kick off the month.

The symbolism of the taupe is for Tone It Down Taupe, the first type of Autism Acceptance/Light It Up Blue satire that I found out about. I used OPI's Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh? as my base. I don't have very many neutrals in my polish rainbow, but this is by far my favorite. I'd even say it's in my top ten favorite polishes in my stash. I can get near opaqueness on most nails with one coat, but a second coat is needed to deepen the color and make it truly opaque. Good that it has a fantastic formula that makes it a breeze to apply! Also, OPI makes some great puns.

The red is supposed to stand for the other prominent acceptance movement that I know of. It started as Walk in Red but has recently requested to be renamed REDInstead, I believe. Saw it on Tumblr and bookmarked it for later. As for the stamping, I used my go to red polish, Wet n Wild Red Red. It's a one coat blue toned red creme. My bottle is so old that it has a CosmoGirl! approved sticker on it. For the stamping design I used Hehe 13, which is a Sailor Moon themed plate. It and the closely related Hehe 14 were actually my very first plates.

I do have a stamping design that somewhat resembles puzzle pieces that I probably would've used to pretend that I was telling Autism Speaks "do you like your puzzle piece now that I have my dirty autistic hands on it?!" But obviously decided against it in the end. I've been a huge Moonie for most of my life, so I decided "why not use a design of something that I consider a sort of special interest instead?" I thought it'd probably look gross against the red, but I'm surprised. I actually kinda like it. From a distance the design reminds me a little of roses.

What do you think?

Also, instead of supporting Autism Speaks, how about you support Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN)? They're actually run by neurodivergents, for one thing.

comments

Confession time: I've never read Go Ask Alice. I've known about it-its plot of sex and drugs, its actually being written by a woman named Beatrice Sparks instead of a deceased teenage girl, its protagonist actually being unnamed instead of Alice-- for years. But I've never actually read it. Probably making a bunch of middle school teachers shake their head in disappointment now, I'm sure.
Recently, however I found another one of Beatrice Spark's faux-journal books at the thrift store. 1979's Jay's Journal, from what I know from "Alice's" plot, is basically Go Ask Alice, only with a teenage boy getting into sex, drugs, and Satanism. This is a couple years before the Satanic Daycare Abuse mass panic of the 80s, so the main concern was of Satanism coming soon to a high school near you, apparently.

I had also heard that the book stemmed from a woman coming to Sparks with the wish that she'd chronicle her son's journal as a way to raise awareness of teenage depression after he committed suicide. Instead Sparks fabricated 90% of an entire story and produced this swill. What an ass.

Curious, I took it off the shelf and began leafing through it. Then I went to the intro, and began reading.

comments
